WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE HEALTHY?
So what does it really mean to be healthy and how does CBD work? The human physiology is functioning optimally when there is a balance. Within the immune system this would mean a balance between inflammation and anti- inflammation; in the nervous system this means a balance between the forces of excitation and inhibition/relaxation and in the endocrine system this refers to balance between catabolic and anabolic hormones.
HOW DOES CBD EFFECT THE HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY
CBD Oil is widely recognised for its role in aiding or promoting this desired balance. But exactly how does CBD work with the body to to this effect? This is due to our body’s endocannabinoid system or ECS. Our bodies naturally produce endocannabinoids (a type of chemical compound) that bind with cannabinoid receptors which are widely present throughout the body. Our bodies produce endocannabinoids in response to various aspects in our environment, including dealing with stress, anxiety and pain. Two primary endocannabinoid receptors have been identified so far: CB1 receptors, which are primarily found in brain regions that play an important role in memory and motor regulation, as well as less dominantly in the lungs, liver and kidney. CB2 receptors are primarily present in cells of the immune system and bone marrow.
The ECS is involved in multiple physiological processes, such as the regulation of pain, mood and cognition, as well as immune functions and metabolism. Recent science has found that the endocannabinoid system does not just respond to the naturally occurring endocannabinoids produced by the body, but also to external cannabinoids like CBD. CBD does not bind directly to either of these receptors but instead impacts them indirectly. These indirect actions include activating TRPV1 receptors, resulting in an increase in anandamide that acts on the CB receptors that control important functions like pain perception, body temperature, inflammation, mood and appetite.
